Maguire Cousins

I tried to do a little extra research the other day – beyond entering data from The Maguire Tree. So I thought I would try to find the “first cousins” [Maguire Tree] that came over with the 5 brothers (William, John, Samuel, Charles and Adam). I’ve concentrated on Cousin Eddie for the time being and did this while researching Samuel.

Here is what we know from the Maguire Tree:

• Eddie is a first cousin
• He is a superintendent in a Mental Hospital in Toronto
• He had 5 children
• A letter from the father of the 5 mentions an “uncle William”

Here is what I found out:

• Edward Maguire was a witness to the wedding of Samuel Maguire and Mary Jane Montgomery in 1872.
• an Edward Allen Maguire married a Eliza Ann Montgomery in 1878 (Eliza is Mary Jane’s sister)
  • Edward Allen is recorded to be a “Keeper of Assylum” and his parents are William and Ann Maguire.
• Edward Allen’s daughter is a witness to Samuel’s daughter’s wedding.
• In many of the birth registrations of Edward Allen he is listed as an employee of an Insane Assylum

Conclusion:

• There is a cousin Edward
• There is likely an Uncle William (perhaps the brother of Charles).
